BU Softball Splits with Wingate University

Wingate, N.C--The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games with Wingate University on Wednesday. The Huskies won the opener 7-4 and dropped the nightcap 2-0.
In game one, outfielder Nikki Shiko (Kulpmont/Southern Columbia) and senior catcher Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) had three hits apiece with Corliss driving in three runs to lead the attack. Kayleen Sidisky (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) drove in a run and scored twice for the Huskies.
The Huskies got on the board in the first, when Shiko scored on an RBI single from freshman outfielder Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore). Wingate, though, came back and took the lead with single runs in the first and second innings. Bloomsburg rallied scoring four runs in the top of the third. It loaded the bases and scored the first run on a hit batsman. Corliss then delivered the big hit, a three-run double to left center, putting Bloomsburg on top 5-2.
The Huskies added two more runs in the fifth. Sidisky scored the first run on an RBI single from junior shortstop Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport). Jen Miller (Muir/Williams Valley) then scored on an RBI single from Shiko for a 7-2 lead. Wingate scored two more runs, but the Huskies hung on for a 7-4 win.
Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) got the win for the Huskies, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits while striking out two. Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) picked up her first save of the year, pitching the final two innings without allowing a run while striking out two.
In game two, the Huskies managed just hits in the game in losing 2-0. Wingate scored both its runs in the fifth inning. Lynn took the loss for Bloomsburg. She allowed only two earned runs on eight hits while striking out seven and not walking a batter.
The Huskies, now 8-2, return to action Thursday, as they travel to Belmont Abbey for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
